Since 1948 – a bridge between markets
Since its founding in 1948, Intermerkur has had a clear role in connecting East and West. The company began its operations in foreign trade, primarily between Switzerland and the former Yugoslavia, and soon expanded to trade between countries of the European Community and Eastern Europe.
After the end of World War II, Switzerland faced the challenge of reconstruction and establishing economic ties with Eastern Europe under entirely new political and market conditions. The first post-war trade agreement was signed in 1948 with Yugoslavia, laying the foundations for long-term and stable cooperation.
To ensure sustainable and well-organized development of trade between these countries, it was necessary to establish a dedicated business arrangement. As a result of this vision, Intermerkur AG was founded on December 31, 1948. Among its founders were leading economic institutions from Switzerland and Yugoslavia, including Swiss Bank Corporation, which from the very beginning ensured the company’s stability, credibility, and international significance.

From its founding to the present day, Intermerkur AG has remained committed to its core objective — strengthening economic relations with the former Yugoslavia as well as with other countries of Eastern Europe. Over the decades, the company has continuously adapted to political and economic changes, keeping pace with the rapid development of markets and industry.
In 2001, Intermerkur d.o.o. was established as a domestic company operating under the umbrella of the parent company, expanding the portfolio to include laboratory, medical, and environmental protection equipment.
Further development followed in 2009 with the establishment of Intermerkur Machinery & Services d.o.o., which continues the business tradition in the field of industrial and machine tools, as well as related equipment and services.
